Rhodes Bayard, a rare book dealer and a friend of Dean’s, has just acquired a valuable old book. Unfortunately, Rhodes’s new possession also comes with something extra: a curse. The book causes terrible nightmares—visions of violent, winged monsters, and dead flesh reanimated into the semblance of life. Dean’s curiosity is aroused, and he traces the history of the haunted volume from estate sales to antique stores to a bibliophile’s den, eventually discovering the truth about its sinister former owner. In life, the man had been obsessed with the secrets of existence, and death itself did not put an end to his quest.
The unsettling dreams soon escalate into chilling manifestations, and that’s still only the beginning. The vengeful ghost will stop at nothing to finish one final experiment—one that leaves a gruesome trail of horror in its wake. The old book is the key to a supernatural countdown, and Dean must neutralize it to save not only Rhodes’s life, but the lives of countless others.
